Low CTR? Try These Simple Call to Action Examples to Increase Conversions

Your call to action (CTA) is one of the most important parts of any conversion-focused page.

A CTA is the button, its text, and surrounding elements that motivate someone to take the desired action. Without a CTA, most users won’t follow through – even if they know exactly what you want them to do. That makes the call to action essential to your click-through rate (CTR).

Finding a CTA for any given page takes time, effort, and brainstorming.

Follow these principles to reach that “perfect” CTA faster:

Keep it Simple

The simpler your CTA is, the more effective it’s likely to be. Users should know exactly what they’re going to get when they click that button! Keep the CTA text to just seven words or less.

Examples:

  • Join free for a month
  • Send my free report
  • Get the demo

Use “My” Wording

There are three ways to frame the phrasing of your CTA, but only one is best:

  • Read your report now!
  • Read the report now!
  • Read my report now!

Since most Web text addresses the user directly, “your” might seem to make sense. When it comes to CTAs, though, research shows “me/my” is the way to go. It grabs the user and puts him or her right into the moment, giving a last psychological push toward action.

Personalize Your Wording

Gone are the days of the generic “Get it now” or “buy it now” CTAs. Users’ eyes skip over these. Get creative – use wording that will spark an emotional response in your specific target audience.

Examples:

  • Teach me how to get more subscribers
  • Reserve my conference seat
  • Book my discovery session

Add “Yes” to Your CTA Text

One basic rule of sales and marketing is to motivate your lead to say “yes.” Small points of agreement develop into large ones, which is why most sites don’t push people to buy right away.

Many of the examples above are made even stronger with “Yes.” Plus, a bold, capitalized “YES” will draw the eye and help your CTA button stand out against surrounding elements the way it should.

The most accurate way to determine which CTAs work best is to constantly split test your landing pages. Without powerful landing pages, your lead generation grinds to a halt.
